INSTRUCTIONS 

Project Brief

You are to choose one song from the list below, appreciate the song, hear it through and
understand the lyrics. You are then required to figure out the storyline, sketch initial ideas,
illustrate and animate the ‘moments’ base of your understanding from the chosen song. Then
songs list are as below:

Artist may use a triptych for any of the following reasons:
• To give the art a narrative in the beginning, middle, and end sense of a story.
• To continue a theme along three pieces.
• To examine a subject from multiple perspectives or with varying techniques.
• To show the progression of a subject, such as its growth or decline.
• To showcase three separate elements that are related and complement each other.
• To break up a very large piece for easier transport, storage, and display.



PROCES

I Started my proces with listening to the different songs and i chose Whitney Houston - Saving all my love for you, because it was the one i enjoyed the most, and it really got me thinking of sitting in this restaurant with dimmed lights, so the song really inspired me.

After choosing the song, i listened to the song over and over again, and what I imagined was this woman with different moods, just like the song displays different moods.

I knew i wanted to do something simple, so I looked at on Pinterest and Instagram to find some inspiration and i found this artist called Janice Sung with these amazing drawings and illustrations of women with a minimalistic touch.

Then i started sketching - and Mr. Redzwan gave me feedback that he thought it would be a good idea to portray the woman in different angles as well. I chose to go with that idea, and that the woman would have different face expressions as well as the backgrounds would be different (colours, symbols etc.). I did three different sketches in my sketchbook to illustrate the different angles and fac expressions.

Then i imported the different sketches in Illustrator to start to draw the different drawings in the Triptych. This is some of the Proces i did in Illustrator.

FINAL RESULT - STILL IMAGE 


The hardest part of this project was to choose the background colours for the three different illustrations, i first chose a light pink and a light blue for image 1 and 2, but the colours just displayed and gave connotations to someone being happy in love and that isn't what the song is displaying. So i changed the colours to something a bit different.

STILL IMAGE TO GIF

The next part was to make the still images into Gifs. So we had to animate diffferent parts of the images.

PROCES 


I did the animation in After Effects, where i used keyframes, i used effects such as Position, Scale and Opacity. Below you'll see my proces in After effects. After i applied the different animations i exported them as gifs in media encoder. I wanted to submit my project as one file, so i merged them together in a online programme called Kapwing.
